Thanks to deregulation, you have the freedom to choose your electricity provider.
We had Albertans in mind when we decided to drop fixed rates.
We'll let you in on a little secret. Fixed rates are just extra money out of your pocket.
Why no fixed rate?
At LEAP Energy, we believe customers shouldn’t have to hedge their electricity bills with fixed rates. This is because pool pricing in Alberta has been historically low and variable rate contracts have been, on average, 20-50% lower than fixed rates.
On a Floating Rate plan, your bill will be different from month to month. This is due to variation in your consumption and fluctuation in the monthly electricity rate But, if you can control power consumption in response to peaks in the electrical market, a variable pricing strategy could be right for you.
The variable or floating rate fluctuates each month as the market price of electricity changes. While a slightly higher risk, a floating rate can allow you to capitalize on historically low pool pricing. Floating rate plans are suited to those who are open to exposing themselves to the electricity market.
If the cost of energy goes down, you save. If the cost of energy goes up, your bill will increase. Click here to learn more about pool pricing.

Struggling to understand your electricity contract or read your electricity bill? Buying and paying for electricity for many individuals and businesses is a test in mathematics. However, it doesn’t have to be. There are two key concepts to understand about the electricity market. First, how electricity gets from the producer to your home or business; and second, how it is priced.

A note about fair competition:
All customers are free to purchase natural gas services from the default supply provider or from a retailer of their choice and to purchase electricity from a regulated rate provider or from a retailer of their choice. The delivery of natural gas and electricity to you is not affected by your choice. If you change you you purchase natural gas or electricity services from, you will continue receiving natural gas and electricity from the distribution company in your service area.
